The Armed Forces Covenant (AFC) is the nation’s commitment to those who have proudly protected our nation with honour, courage and commitment. It pledges that together we acknowledge and understand that those who have fought for our country, and their families, should be treated fairly and respectfully in the communities, economy and society they serve with their lives.
It focuses on helping and supporting members of the armed forces community to have the same access to government, commercial services and products as any other citizen, including:
education and family well being
having a home
starting a new career
access to healthcare
financial assistance
discounted services
By signing the Covenant, Impact is reinforcing its commitment to support serving personnel, service leavers, veterans and their families by fostering relationships between business and the Armed Forces, and supporting employment opportunities for veterans, service spouses and partners.
In supporting those who serve, have served, and their families, and the value they bring to our business, Impact will seek to uphold the principles of the Covenant by:
Promoting the Armed Forces: promoting the fact that we are an Armed Forces-friendly organisation, to our staff, customers, suppliers, contractors and wider public.
National Events: supporting Armed Forces Day, Reserves Day, the Poppy Appeal Day and Remembrance activities.
Commercial Support: offering a discount to members of the Armed Forces community; Offer and/or promote commercial discounts for members of the Armed Forces Community via the Defence Discount Service.
Ensure the Armed Forces has fair access to our services and is not put at disadvantage by their service.
The Armed Forces Covenant
Since 2013, thousands of companies across the UK have publicly pledged their support to the armed forces community by signing the Armed Forces Covenant.
This is a voluntary pledge and helps build a two-way relationship between businesses and Defence, helping to raise awareness of the immense contribution that those who serve, or who have served, and their families, make to everything we do. Businesses may write their own pledges, but they must include two core statements:
No member of the Armed Forces should face disadvantage in the provision of public and commercial services compared to any other citizen.
In some circumstances special treatment may be appropriate, especially for injured or bereaved Armed Forces personnel and their families.
Each organisation is also encouraged to offer support in ways appropriate to their situation and capacity, with the covenant document including examples of other pledges they can commit to. https://www.armedforcescovenant.gov.uk
